4/33 Church House


GV II

House. Probably late C17 or C18 with early C20 extensions. Timber-
framed with plaster and brick infill, brick, tile and Welsh slate roofs,
sandstone rubble and brick stacks. Two structural bays aligned roughly
north-west/south-east, large brick extension to north. Two storeys and
attic. West elevation has 1:2 windows, 2-light casements, two gable fronts,
the right one timber-framed and divided by external end stack, glazed entrance
porch to left of this stack. Frame has V-struts above collar of west gable,
side walls two panels high from cill to wall-plate and angle struts to
corner posts. Church House is conspicuously sited on the north side of the
churchyard of the Church of St Michael and All Angels (qv). It was previously
known as The Old Vicarage. (RCHM Vol I, p 163).
