SO 43 NW MADLEY CP -

4/51 Church House

GV II

House. Possibly C17 with C18 enlargement and remodelling and late C20
alterations. Brick with tiled roof and brick end stacks. L-plan with
subsidiary wing extending south-eastwards. Cellar with two storeys and
attic. North-west elevation has three tripartite sashes under segmental
heads, plat band, central entry with late C20 canopy and door. Interior
has C18 dog-leg staircase of two flights with turned balusters, principal
northern first floor room has C18 cupboard with fielded panels and decora-
tive strap hinges, roof of three-bay main range has two interrupted tie-
beam trusses, each with two pairs of parallel angle struts for partition-
ing. Included for group value. An important element in the setting of
the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (qv).
