4/55 Forty Cottage

Cottage. Probably C17 with later alterations. Timber-frame with brick
infill, weatherboards, sandstone rubble, Welsh slate roof and external
sandstone end stack with brick shaft. Two structural bays aligned roughly
east/west. Two storeys. North elevation has four windows, 2- and 4-pane
C20 casements and sashes in weatherboarded upper storey with two contemporary
2-light casements in exposed timber-framing of ground floor; projecting upper
storey is supported on bressummer with straight-cut chamfer-stops resting on
three curved braces rising forwards from main wall-posts; rear glazed late
C20 door. Interior has heavy chamfered ceiling beams (RCHM Vol I, p 197).
