west-north-west of
Whitfield

Barn. Probably late C18 to early C19, altered in late C20. Finely coursed
sandstone rubble and Welsh slate roof, Six structural bays aligned roughly
east/west. South elevation has three rows of vent-slits and large opposed
segmentally-headed cart entries to right of centre with a smaller opposed
entry to the left-hand side. East gable has lunette and ball finial. Interior
has trusses with single pegged principals and ties between which are two
parallel angle struts either side of each bolted king-rod. Lintols of vent-
slits are re-used wall-frame timbers. Attached to the north side of the east
end is a low extension (not of special architectural interest). The barn
forms an important element in the complex of stables (qv), cottage, gate piers
and enclosing walls (qv) to Whitfield (qv). Included for group value.
