Description

SO 43 SW TREVILLE CP -

6/91 Gate, gate piers and
flanking rails about
100 yards east of Whitfield

GV II

Gate, gate piers and railings. Possibly c1860. Cast iron. Gate is one leaf
and ingeniously hinged to swing both ways, several rails, the bottom two with
scrolled dog bars, top rail has elaborate scrolls and finials. Gate piers
are square in section with open-work panels and solid finials. Railings
continue in simplified form the motifs of the gate, those to south extend
about five yards at full height; those to north are similar but an extra
section curves down to a ha-ha. The gate, gate piers and railings are an
important feature in the approach to Whitfield (qv) from the east.
