3/100 Portal about 100 yards
west of Woodfield Farmhouse
-

GV II

Portal. "HB 1832" on keystone. Finely coursed sandstone rubble with sandstone
dressings. Polygonal plan consisting of 3 angled walls, the outer wings of
which return towards the north and east. South-west elevation has one central
loop to each face of the wall which stands about 12 feet, small square turrets
with pyramidical caps at each end, sandstone coping. North-east elevation has
segmental arch with date, said to have led to a tunnel under the adjacent road.
The portal was probably a feature relating to the former Tyberton Court,
demolished c1951, which lay to the north-west.
