Monastery buildings. 1857-8, with later additions. Mainly by Edward Welby
Pugin for F R Wegg-Prosser. Coursed squared sandstone and limestone rubble
with limestone, probably Bath Stone, dressings. Welsh slate roof, stone stacks
and fleche. Irregular plan with main range aligned north-north-west/south-
south-east. Two storeys and attics. West elevation has 2:7:2:1:2 windows,
with one verged gable to the left and two to the right, the latter separated
by tall traceried staircase light with a stilted label. Ground floor windows
are narrow paired sashes except to centre part where there are a series of
mullioned and transomed stepped lights in groups of three. Most of first
floor windows have labels. Dormers have 2-light casements. One entry to
right of left-hand gable front via gabled porch. Second entry between two
right-hand gables, by 9-panelled door, above which is label with headstop
to left side only. Attached to left-hand side is a 1906 library extension
with four pairs of trefoil-headed lights with trefoil tracery, hipped roof
and two ventilation gablets part-way up the roof slope. Attached to the
south end is a small cottage with a central stack and south-facing dormer.
Interior noted as having 14-flight pine newel staircase to south twin gabled
