Description

The following building shall be included:

MUCH DEWCHURCH CP
SO 43 SE

The Old Toll Cottage

GV II
Toll cottage. Early C19, extended later C19. Coursed squared sandstone rubble
with Welsh slate roof. Single cell symmetrical cottage with central entry
flanked by 2-light timber casements in segmental heads. Plank door with small
gabled porch. Two similar windows above. External stack (presently truncated)
to left hand gable. Rear extension added and rear roof slope altered in later
C19. Interior has two small segmentally arched fireplaces. Original triangular
rooftruss in centre, rest of roofing later C19. A complete single cell cottage
used apparently as a toll cottage and its siting certainly suggests this.
