Farmhouse, with agricultural r)uilding at west end. C16 or earlier with
C17, C18, C19 and C20 alterations. Partly cruck-framed with some
square-panelled post and rail framing, clad in rubble stone to south, with
central section of north side with probably Cl7 square-panelled timber-framing
with painted brick infilling; section to left clad red brick, section to right
hidden by later accretions Aligned east-west, facing north-south. 2 storeys;
south front; irregular fenestration of 5 windows on first floor and 3 on
ground floor, those at extreme left on both floors with boarded hatches, all
others casements. Two gabled porches, one to right of centre, the other to
extreme right. Above halfway up the wall to the right is a break which may
signify where the building has been raised. North front: irregular front
with fenestration of 6 windows on first floor and four on ground floor, a
mixture of types and dates of wooden casement. Stair to right leading to
first floor of agricultural building to right. Boarded door to extreme
left of timber-framed section and half-glazed door towards right of that section.
interior: At least 4 bays of timber-frame visible in house part, with cruck
blades visible in first-floor room at east end. Early C18 winder staircase
with turned balusters and flat handrail. The building was probably originally
of hallhouse plan, and may be an unusual example of a building combining both
cruck and post and rail timber-framing.
