House, now three houses and shop. C15, floored C16 with C17 extension and
alterations and some mid-C19 and late C20 alterations. Timber-frame with
brick infill and tile roof. Two framed bays aligned north/south, that to
north a former open hall with through-passage at north end, service bay no
longer exists; main stack inserted with back to through-passage. Street
front: two storeys, 3 + 1 windows: 2- and 3-light casements, that to right
in C19 gabled brick addition, which has a shop front on ground floor, rest
of ground floor: two 3-light casements, entrances to Nos 6 and 8 between
have wooden architraves and C20 doors. Framing: close-studding survives on
first floor. Northern truss visible internally has an arch-braced tie-beam
and two struts to collar, yoke just below ridge and trenched purlins; inter-
mediate hall truss has an arch-braced collar with wattle-and-daub infill.
There are extensive traces of smoke-blackening on the roof. The ceiling of
the room over the hall has a late C17 decorative design (slightly damaged).
No 2 is at the rear, in a C17 extension. (Report by S J Price (1984) in
