Country house. C15, remodelled early C18 and c1796, the latter probably by
George Byfield for Robert Biddulph, with late C19 and mid-C20 alterations.
Timber-frame clad in ashlar and stuccoed brick with tile roofs. South-east
front: to right the medieval hall of one storey with two levels of windows,
each of two 2-light casements, this face restored mid-C20; later house to
right early C18, remodelled late C18, of three storeys with hipped tile roof;
parapet with moulded cornice, band to ground floor and sill band to first
floor; six windows (probably seven originally): glazing bar sashes, second
floor: 9-pane sashes; ground floor: tall glazing bar sashes, French casement
to left-hand corner, entrance to right of centre has portico of two Doric
columns with moulded cornice. Interior: hall has an eight-bay hammer-beam
roof, walls originally timber-framed, roof has arch-braces from hammer-beam
to collar with pentagonal bosses on collar, space above filled with pierced
tracery; brackets from wall-posts to hammer-beams are cusped with shields
at base. The unexecuted designs by George Byfield include "Principal Front
