10/168 The Tennis Court


Indoor tennis court. 1891 with some late C20 alterations. Rendered brick
with tile roof. Aligned north-east/south-west with balcony to south-west
end. South-west front: two storeys, upper storey open as balcony has a flat
roof with full entablature supported by four caryatids; balcony has a stone
balustrade; ground floor: three semi-circular headed recesses with keystones
and band linking imposts; blind entrances in each, save that to left. Interior
is lit by a range of windows high on each side wall. Roof has a matchboarded
segmental barrel vault. (The Redditch Indicator, 23rd January 1892, p 7).
