House, now public house. c1700 remodelling of older structure with mid-C19
and late C20 alterations and additions. Brick, partly rendered; machine-tile
roof with large brick stacks. T-plan; main part of five bays with large
central chimney forming lobby-entry plan; three-bay cross-wing at left gable
end with stack to left of ridge and also C19 external chimney at left side.
Two storeys with three-course band between storeys and dentilled eaves
cornice. Windows have stone lintels. West front elevation: main part has
three ground and five first floor cross-casements; also ground floor rectangular
light; entrance in third bay has stone lintel and C20 double doors; additional
entrance in first bay with C20 gabled brick porch and C20 door. Cross-wing
gable end has a 3-light ground floor casement with transom and a first floor
cross-casement. Interior: stop-chamfered main ceiling beams. Large back-to-
back fireplaces. There is some timber-framing visible at rear which survives
from the original house, as does the plan form. The late C20 single-storey
additions to rear are not of special architectural interest. (VCH 3(i), p 11).
