SO 9076 - 9176 BELBROUGHTON CP CHURCH ROAD (west side)

12/20 No 14 (Bellem Cottage)


House, now divided into tenements. C17 with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations
and additions. Timber-framed with rendered and painted brick infill, rendered
and painted brick replacement walling, refacing and additions; slate and tiled
roof. Three framed bays aligned north/south; large chimney at junction of
north and central bay with large brick ridge stack and also chimney to rear
of south bay with large stack. Single storey and attic with dormers.
Framing: three panels from sill to wall-plate; collar and tie-beam truss
with two struts at south gable end. East front elevation: 3-light and 2-light
C19 casements and C19 bay window on ground floor; two gabled dormers with 3-
light. casements; main entrance in left bay has a cambered head and ledged and
battened door. Attic lights at gable ends. Interior: roof and much of rear
and internal framing intact; back-to-back fireplaces. Two single-bay wings
(one C17 and one probably C19) to rear.
