Farmhouse, now house. Dated 1669 with c1835 and mid-C20 alterations and
additions. Part timber-framed with rendered infill, part rendered brick;
plain and machine-tiled roofs. Original part of three framed bays aligned
north/south with central east porch wing; central chimney bay has large
brick ridge stack with blind arcading and originally forming lobby-entry
plan. Two storeys and attic. Framing: close-set studding on ground floor;
three rows of square panels with long straight braces in lower corners on
first floor. Collar and tie-beam truss with two collars (four struts to
lower collar, two to upper collar and V-strut in apex) visible at north
gable end. Main east elevation: windows are C20 casements. Ground floor
has a 3-light, a 2-light and a blocked window; three first floor 3-light
windows. C20 doors in outer bays. Porch wing has been underbuilt and has
a C20 canted bay window on the ground floor and a 2-light first floor window.
On the collar of the roof truss is written "IP 1669 SD". Interior retains
its stop-chamfered main ceiling beams. At the south end a large addition
was added c1835 to provide a new south entrance front. Two storeys; three
bays; 4-pane sash windows; central entrance with C20 door and barred segmental
fanlight. The initials 'IP' on the porch wing of the original part are said
to stand for Isaac Perks the original owner of the house. This part of the
house is of particular interest because of its late date for its plan form
and type of framing. (BoE, p 150).
