casements in original openings in outer bays; central part has a c20 glazed door
flanked by single-,light C20 casements, all in original openings. A C20 gabled
timber part-glazed porch now encloses the door. Trefoil opening in stone triangle
in gable apex. Contemporary service buildings including stable to rear right.
One of 40 similar Chartist houses in Dodford built mainly on four-acre plots by
the Chartist Land Company. As on other Chartist estates each small-holding was
intended to provide its occupant with an independent livelihood and the opportunity
to qualify for a County vote. This example is notable for the survival of its
rear service and out-buildings. (W Bond, From Hamlet to Parish, 1972).
