Farmhouse divided into two dwellings, and adjoining garden wall, gate piers and
moat bridge. Late C18 with mid-C19 alterations. Brick with two-span plain
tiled roof (banded with red and blue tiles), gable-end parapets with ashlar
coping, kneelers and ball finials; large ridge stack and right end and rear
stacks with blue brick capping. Two storeys, attic and cellar; dentilled eaves
cornice; four bays; windows have gauged flat heads and are C19 mullion and tran-
som casements; two 3-light and a2-light window on the ground floor and two 3-
light and two 2-light first floor windows. Main entrance in third bay has C19
gabled canopy with pierced scalloped bargeboards and moulded finial on shaped
brackets; doorcase has original reeded pilasters, raised and fielded panelled
reveals and soffit, 6-panelled door (upper panels are glazed, middle panels are
raised and fielded) and a barred segmental fanlight. To the left of the door is
a rectangular window with stained glass. Left side elevation has similar case-
ments with cambered heads, a doorcase with pilasters, 6-panelled door and
traceried fanlight; central valley gutter leads to stone gargoyle and fountain
head below. Attic lights at left gable end. Interior retains its dog-leg
staircase with wreathed handrail and turned newels. Later additions to rear.
Garden walls to west and north; brick with sandstone coping; varies between
three and five feet high; west wall adjoins farmhouse to left side, runs west
for eight yards then returns south for about 40 yards; it is interrupted by a
simple gateway to the north of which is a mounting block with five sandstone
steps and a dog kennel in its base; this west section of the wall divides the
garden from the farmyard. This wall returns to the east for about 50 yards
alongside the main road. About half-way it is interrupted by two square rusti-
cated sandstone gate piers with pyramidal capping and ball finials; there is a
single ornate cast iron gate. The gateway leads onto the moat bridge; this has
an elliptical archway, is about five feet wide and five yards long, and has tall
decorative cast iron railings which have standards with urn finials. The moat
survives to the south and east of the farmhouse.
