Farmhouse. c1600, partly rebuilt mid- to late C18 with mid-C19 alterations.
Part timber-framed with rendered infill and brick replacement walling on
sandstone base; part brick; plain tiled roofs. Main part of three bays
aligned north/south with large chimney and brick stack to central bay; timber-
framed single-bay wing projects to west of central bay; also single-bay cross-
wing at south gable end. Partly two storeys and attic, partly single storey,
attic and cellar; dentilled eaves cornice. Framing: west wing has two rows
of close-set studding from sill to wall-plate; attic storey jettied at gable
end with moulded bressummer on consoles; collar and tie-beam truss with two
collars, four struts to lower and two to upper collar with V-strut in apex.
West front elevation: main part to left of primary wing has a parallel single-
storey addition with ridge end stack, 3-light casement and to right the main
entrance with a lean-to canopy on a timber upright and probably the original
door re-used; framed wing has blind cellar window, ledged and battened cellar
door, 3-light ground floor casement and attic light in its gable end; also
cross-casement, 3-light casement with cambered head and 2-light first floor
casement in its right side elevation; to right of wing is a half-glazed door
with lean-to canopy and there are two square stair lights above at first floor
level; cross-wing gable end has an attic light. Interior: some moulded ceiling
beams; large fireplace in central bay of main part. Ground floor of cross-
wing retains its panelled dado and a round-headed niche. A piece of timber
adjacent to the main entrance is inscribed with the date 1691; this is said
to have been found in an outbuilding now demolished.
