Windsor Mills

Needle mill, now factory units. Mid-C19. Brick with blue and yellow
brick dressings; shallow-pitched hipped slate roofs. Three storeys with
sill bands and dentilled eaves cornice. 6:4:1:4 bays articulated by
pilaster buttresses; ground and first floor windows have round heads; second
floor windows have cambered heads; multi-paned metal windows throughout; six-
bay part and single-bay part have paired windows on the two upper floors;
archway with cambered head and keyblock in single-bay part; also-inserted
C20 door in tenth bay. North return at both ends, of seven bays at west
end and eight bays at east end. The mill is shown on a map of c1880 as
the Excelsior Works. It is a substantial and well-detailed building that
has survived with little external alteration.
