Farmhouse. Late C16 with mid-C19 and mid-C20 alterations. Timber-framed
with rendered and painted brick infill on sandstone base; machine-tiled
roof. H-plan; central range of two framed bays aligned north/south; large
external chimney with offsets to rear east- elevation; cross-wings of two
framed bays, south cross-wing has external chimney with offsets to side
elevation. Two storeys and attic. Framing: central part and south service
wing have six panels from sill to wall-plate; north wing has one row of
close-set studding from sill to girding-beam, and three rows of close-set
studding from girding-beam to wall-plate; short straight braces in upper
corners at rear; collar and tie-beam trusses; south wing trusses have two
collars, five struts to lower and two to upper collar with V-strut in apex;
north trusses have single collar with close-set struts beneath and V-strut
above. West front elevation: tiled weatherings at first floor level and
attic level of gable ends; central range has a 3-light casement on both floors,
half-glazed door to left; north gable end has a large 5-light C20 window on
the ground floor, a 5-light first floor casement and an attic light; south
gable end has a ground floor 16-pane sash with a moulded architrave, a 3-light
first floor casement and a blocked attic light. Interior: dog-leg staircase
with turned balusters to rear of central range. Main entrance now in north
side elevation. (BoE, p 95).
