House, now public house and attached out-building, probably formerly a stable.
c1800 with mid-C20 alterations. Painted brick and machine-tiled roof with end
stacks. Two storeys and attic with dormers. Three bays; right ground floor
window and two first floor windows are 3-light casements with cambered heads;
canted bay window to left of ground floor; central first floor 2-light case-
ment with cambered head; three gabled dormers with 2-light casements; central
entrance has been widened and has a C20 pedimented and pilastered surround and
a pair of C20 doors. Interior partly remodelled. The outbuilding adjoins to
rear right. Early C19. Painted brick with half-hipped slate roof. Two storeys
with dentilled eaves cornice. Ground floor has two round-headed openings with
inserted C20 casements and also a single-light window with cambered head; three
first floor large 3-light casements with cambered heads; two wide doorways with
cambered heads, one having a C20 door and left side light and the other having
large double doors. The building is in a prominent situation at the north-east
end of the High Street next to Nos 50 and 52 (qv). Included for group value.
