House, now shop and flat. First half C16, refronted mid-C18 with mid-C19
and some late C20 alterations. Timber-frame clad in brick with hipped till
roof and central stack. Three storeys, dentilled brick cornice, small part
of front to right-hand side canted back; two plus one windows: 16-pane sashes
under plastered wedge lintels with keystones; second floor: 12-pane sashes;
ground floor: pilastered shop front with scroll brackets to cornice, recessed
central entry with glazed door flanked by two plate glass windows; in central
section of front a recessed ledged and boarded door to passage leading to
no 46A (not included). Interior: jetty of second floor of original structure
visible in the first floor show room. The roof is of two bays with raking
struts to collar and clasped purlin. Exposed ceiling beams in ground floor
passage continue into next door [no 47 (qv)].
