7/161 North Mill Building,
Churchill Spade & Shovel Works.
Mill building. Late C18, restored late C20. Brick with machine tile roof.
L-plan, one limb to north, other to west, stalk for forge in angle. South wall
has a dentilled brick band at door head height, the gable range to the right has
a C20 tri-light casement to the left. Entrance to left hand corner. Overshot cast iron water wheel at east end of south wall. Interior retains working machinery, including drive belt system and a drop hammer. Forms a part of a spade and shovel mill, an important industrial survival. Forms a part of a scheduled ancient monument.
