House. C16, floor and chimney C17, NW extension C18/C19, E part C20.
Timber frame brick nogged, later parts brick, front plastered and lined
as ashlar. Steep old red tile roofs with 3 changes of height along
front. A complex 4-cells, 2 storeys, internal chimney plan house facing
S, with former baffle entry and stair turret behind chimney. Complex
large 3-stepped chimney rises in rear slope of roof. 4 windows on each
floor on S front in irregular arrangement. 3-light cast iron small paned
casements on each floor. Battened door under lean-to tiled porch leads
into stair hall of C20 E extension. Axial chamfered floor beam in first
room on LH, with chamfered and stopped joists. Beyond massive chimney a
higher room with chamfered floor beams and square joists. Jowled posts
and cambered tie-beam. Wide panels in wall framing. Curved braces to tie
beams. Curved wind-braces to clasped purlin queen-struts and collar
truss. Thick old floor tiles stamped with cross on a shield. Rear
outshut with catslide roof, and large late external chimneys at rear NW
and at W gable. Boxmoor grazing rights plaque No. 583 (No. 582 screwed
