TL 00 SW (West side)

6/98 Braziers Farm


Farmhouse, now a private house. C16, N parts early and later C19, W bay
rebuilt in 1930's. Timber frame on red brick sill, frame exposed on S
front and E end with flint panels in brick nogging on S. Buff brick N
face and plum brick at NW parts and W bay. Steep old red tile roofs. A
2-storeys, 3 cells, internal chimney plan house with later N rear
extensions along an added rear passage. Interior has exposed framing
with jowled posts, wide spaced studs, straight braces to tie-beams and
wallplate, curved wind braces to single purlin in each slope. Collar
and queen-strut trusses. 2 bays of timber frame exposed on S wall with
corbelled eaves courses and plum brick N part. Small paned casement
windows, 3 to 1st floor but large hipped roofed square bay window to W
part. Gabled brick and flint porch on N at E corner. Original plan
possibly a 2 storeys, 2 bay house with W end chimney.
