7 adjacent houses. C17 and C18. Timber frames refronted with red brick.
Steep old red tile roofs. A picturesque group of 2-storeys houses facing
S, extending E from the junction with Birch Lane. No.94 fronts Birch
Lane and is half of the rear wing of No.95 with matching one storey
extension set back on LH. C18 sandy red brick with steep hipped roof to
rear wing with internal chimney. 2 windows to each floor (3-light
casements with segmental arch to ground floor) plank door and open
gabled porch at LH corner. W gable of No.95 is plum brick with blocked
door and 3-light casement on each floor. Side-purlin roof. No.95 joined
with no.96/97 which is half of a timber framed building refronted in
brick, the other half being no.98. Each has 2 windows (3-light casements
with segmental arches to ground floor) and plank doors but no.98 has an
E gable chimney while the W half of the building has an internal chimney
and lobby entry. The soffit of the front wallplate visible through being
spread beyond walls has mortices for studs of former timbered front
wall. No.99 has its gable end to street framed by full height timbers.
One window to each floor and door on RH. Panel of C17 brickwork with
small square window under eaves to left flanking large old chimney.
No,100 C18 also gabled with 3-light casements but with floor band and
some blue headers in the brickwork. Rear gable chimney. Arched narrower
upper window. Nos.101 and 102 a handed pair set back a little, later
front than no.100 with central pilaster, chamfered plinth and corbelled
eaves. One window to each floor of each house and shared central
chimney. 3-light casement windows with segmental arches to ground floor
windows and doorways with heavy frames and plank doors. Early C20
fancy E gable to no.102 with toothed course and hipped bay below half
timbered gable.
