House, now offices. '1830' on E gable, renovated 1981 when interior
reconstructed and gabled rear wing and E terrace added. Buff brick with
red rubbed brick arches. Rusticated stucco to basement. Moulded wooden
cornice to eaves and pediments. Slate roof. A large symmetrical
classical villa of 2-storeys, attics and basement (extended to E under
terrace) facing S, with W gable to High Street. 5 windows wide S front
with advanced centre of 3 windows with pediment and oval window in
tympanum. Heavy pilastered doorcase with entablature to central double
doors with rectangular fanlight up 6 stone moulded steps. Recessed sash
windows with 6/6 panes and flat gauged arches. Ground floor windows
flanking door are set in arched recesses with narrow impost blocks
linked to door surround. W gable pedimented with oval attic window,
triple sash window to 1st floor and similar ground floor window in a
large arched recess. Twin projecting chimneys cut through the raking
pediment and drag the horizontal pediment up in swept curves each side.
Corbelled oversailing chimney tops. Balustrade with dies around terrace
on E. Formerly called Pole House. (KLLHMS report (1979) in NMR).
