Inn, now a public house. C16 or earlier W wing, C17 E range refronted in
brick, in C18. C19 porch and jetty of crosswing underbuilt. Timber
frame, wing roughcast with red brick casing to ground floor painted on
W. E range red brick in Flemish-bond. Steep old red tile roofs. A
2-storeys and cellar, L-shaped corner block facing N. Internal chimney
to 2-cells E range rising through front roofslope, entrance at junction
with projecting E wing extending to rear with 4 bays and a lateral
external chimney to N part and an internal gable chimney at S end. N
front has projecting gabled wing on RH with a 4-light casement to 1st
floor and a 3-light casement window under a segmental arch on ground
floor. Lean-to brick porch in angle with half-glazed 4 panel
flush-beaded door. A 4-light casement window to 1st floor and ground
floor next porch with plat-band, plinth and corbelled course with
projecting headers at eaves. Projecting swinging sign with 2 blind
recesses on 1st floor to LH and a 4-panel flush bead door with flat hood
on brackets with 3-lights casement window under segmental arch.
Irregular W flank wall with a cross-window on 1st floor and other
small-panes fixed lights. Interior has exposed timbers with framed E
wall of wing opened up as a screen in the bar, mason-mitred crossbeam
with chamfered knee-brace in 1st wing, and chamfered axial beam in E
range which may have been inserted. Stair in rear angle of wings.
