- Flamstead Churchyard
40M to NE of Chancel)

Tomb chest. 1811 for Thomas Pickford Esq, of Markyate, founder of the
celebrated firm of carriers. Portland stone. A tall chest tomb with
fluted clasping corner pilasters. Panels with rebated corners. High
moulded base on stone slabs with sockets for railings. Hipped-weathered
top slab with half-round rim and acroteria. Inscription on S side 'In a
Vault/beneath this Tomb are/ deposited the mortal Remains/ of
Thos. PICKFORD Esq of Markgate Street in/this parish who departed
this/life on the 21st Day of Septr 1811 in/the 65 Year of his Age.'.
