Farmhouse, now house (No. 2) and farmhouse at N half (No. 1). C17, N bay
brick cased in C18, the rest of the exterior brick cased in C19, mid C19
NW parlour wing, subdivided 1953. Timber frame exposed internally on 1st
floor in N bay. Red brick in Flemish-bond, NW wing in plum brick with
hipped slate roof. Old red tile roofs generally. A long 2-storeys and
cellar, 6 windows long building, facing E into yard. Built along slope
with ground much lower on E with many steps to door. C19 new entrance on
N into 2-storeys NW parlour wing. Lean-to extension at S end and gabled
2-storeys rear service wing at SW. Large internal chimney at centre of
house, external N gable chimney with 2 diagonally set square shafts. C19
external chimney at S gable. E front has regular array of 3 windows to
each side of centre and door under middle window in N part. 2-lights
cast-iron framed, small-paned windows to 1st floor, and similar 3-lights
windows to ground floor. Straight joint in brickwork to N part to N of
door. C19 NW parlour wing in plum brick with brighter red dressings,
Wallhead chimney on S wall and a window on each floor on W end and to RH
of door on N. Recessed sash windows with 6/6 panes to 1st floor and
margin-lights to ground floor. Segmental arches with chamfered jambs to
windows. Interior of ground floor in No. 1 has chamfered cross-beam in
front of central chimney. Sagging of roof between trusses suggest the
C17 chimney may be an insertion into an older 4-bays house.
