Gatelodge. Circa 1870 for Halsey family. Polychrome brick, Bath stone
dressings, half timbering to upper parts with white brick infill, steep
red tile roofs with bands of scalloped tiles. 2-storeys centre with
single-storey wings N and S. Faces E onto drive by entrance gates.
Centre has red brick ground floor banded in black brick, stone sills and
lintels of 2-storeys canted central bay window extended as bands. Heavy
wooden brackets spring from stone corbel course to support front jetty
of half-timbered 1st floor. Steep faceted roof to bay. S wing has
arcaded wooden recessed porch in front of boarded door and projecting
chimney carried up with elaborate polychrome shaft. Rectangular 2-light
bay window on S end of small projection with lean-to tiled roof on
pierced brackets. Panels of encaustic tiles set in aprons of upper
windows of bay. Similar recessed porch to N wing which has transomed
2-light casement and projecting N gable chimney. A coloured architect's
perspective drawing of the lodge is among the estate papers at The
Golden Parsonage.
