House, now 3 houses. C16 or earlier hall range, W bay C17, E crosswing
late C17 or C18, NE extension C20. Timber frame exposed on red brick
sill with red brick infill and rebuilding of ground floor of crosswing.
Steep old red tile roofs. A T-shaped 2-storeys house facing S. Hall
range originally of 3 bays (the middle bay wider), with an extension to
W end of 2-storeys and cellar. Unusually wide 2-bays projecting E
crosswing altered in C18 by insertion of central chimney, brick ground
floor and hip in place of front gable. Irregular windows in hall range
with 3 2-light casements on each floor and 2 plank doors under lean-to
tiled hoods with brick steps. Crosswing S front has 2 2-light windows to
1st floor, and a 3-light and 2-light window flanking the gabled rustic
porch and battened entrance doors up 3 steps. Rear part of cross wing
now a separate house (No. 7) entered by single-storey NE extension. Hall
range has clasped-purlin roof with curved wind-braces, and collar and
cambered tie-beam in closed full-height partition at each end of middle
(hall) bay with wide-spaced studs. Former W end wall has very wide
cranked tension braces. The C17 W end-bay extension has curved-jowl
posts, straight braces to wallplate, clasped-purlin roof, and gabled
rear dormer.
