House, now 2 commercial properties. C17 or earlier, C18 brick front, C19
shopfronts. Timber frame exposed in rear wing and N gable of No. 97, red
brick infill and painted brick ground floor at rear, chequered red and
blue brick front, roughcast LH part, red tilehung upper part to N
extension of rear wing. Steep old red tile roofs, front eaves raised,
slated N extension and rear outshut. An L-shaped, 2-storeys building on
street front facing W, with 1 1/2-storeys N extension to NE rear wing.
Large internal chimney a third from S end and a chimney at the junction
with the rear wing. 5-windows long W front has transomed flush wooden
casement windows to 1st floor under segmental arches. Shopfronts
undistinguished. Old 2-lights and 3-lights casement windows on S face
of rear wing. Clasped-purlin roof structure of front range exposed in N
gable with end rafter of much steeper front slope. The stepping-out of
the frontage suggests the building had a front jetty, subsequently
underbuilt.
