Inn. C16 former open hall house with N crosswing, late C17 rear wing at
NE and floor inserted in hall, C19 brick front and N side casing and
single storey rear wing to rear of NE wing. Timber frame exposed at rear
and in wide carriageway through S part of building painted brick for
infilling panels and casing to front and N side. Steep old red tile
roofs, hipped at NW corner. A 2-storeys, L-shaped building facing W with
door into N end of former open hall bay with C16 moulded beam of former
smoke hood across its S end with later internal chimney built within
smoke-bay. Framed partitions divide 3 more bays to S of chimney. N
crosswing has marks of former cross-partition into 2 rooms and N side
chimney in 2nd bay from front. W front has 3 flush casement windows
under the eaves, with small panes and 3:3:2-lights. Ground floor has
wider small-paned windows under cambered arches flanking door with
gabled porch. 8/8 sash window to right before very wide carriageway open
and occupying the S 2 bays of the range. Roof structure exposed here of
side purlin roof with curved wind-braces. Similar roof structure exposed
in E gable of NE rear wing. C18 2-light mullioned rectangular leaded
casement window on 1st floor at N of rear wing with iron opening light.
Sash window with 3/3 panes below. C17 staircase and some panelling.
Building was formerly Nos. 101 and 103.
