GV of Red Cow Farmhouse)

Barn. Late C16/early C17, mid C17 gabled rear extension. Timber frame on
low brick sills, dark weatherboarded, with steep old red tile roofs. A
tall 3-bays barn facing W into the farmyard with double doorway to
middle bay and gabled tall E rear extension with high small door. Jowled
posts, long straight braces to cambered tie-beams, inclined heavy
queen-posts supporting the single clasped-purlin in each slope with
simple splayed scarf joints. Long straight wind-braces from gable ends
only. Mortices under wallplate for former wall studs at rear of middle
bay. Unusually late use of edge-halved scarf joint with bridled butts in
