House. Mid/late C17 elaborately restored 1879 to design of Lady Marion
Alford and her son Earl Brownlow ('AD 1513' incorporated in pargetting
at LH with 'REST 1879' at RH). Timber frame on chamfered red brick
plinth with exposed close studding and red brick infill on ground floor,
all-over stamped panelled pargetting to upper part jettied on 3 sides.
Steep red tiled roof. A 2-storeys cellar and attics house facing S in
eclectic Half-Timber Style. Symmetrical front with 3 windows and central
door. 3-light flush casement windows with lattice leaded glazing.
2-light in middle over plank door. 2 2-light gabled dormers on
roofslope. Large external W gable chimney and rear wall chimney to E
part. Interior has thin axial floor beams, high ceilings and tenoned
purlins to roof structure. Cellar and rear parts C19. Deeds of 1698 and
called Halfe-Moon Cottage in 1726. (RCHM Typescript).
