Icehouse. C18, for Ashridge Estate, entrance rebuilt C20. Red brick with
many vitrified bricks. A circular structure buried in the slope
approached by a short low segmental vaulted brick tunnel about 5ft wide
closed by a segmental arched entrance with tile springers to arch and
iron gate. About 15ft in diameter with deep conical well and brick
hemispherical dome with entrance at level of springing. English-bond
brickwork to interior. Many initials and dates cut into tunnel walls
with 'IPG 1778' on N side.
