Barn and stable attached. C17 barn, C18 stable, W gable C20 brick.
Timber frames on low red brick sills, dark weatherboarded with steep old
red tile roofs. Red brick W gable to barn. A tall 1½-bays barn facing N,
formerly extending further to W and linked by forge to house. Lower
2-bays stable joins E bay of barn at an angle on N side. Barn has jowled
bay-posts, unjowled mid-bay posts, mid-height rail tenoned in-line,
clasped-purlin roof with single purlin in each slope, curved inclined
queen-posts to open truss without collar, collar and struts in E gable
truss. Straight braces to tie-beams and wall-plates. Stable has split
doors, front and back, next junction with barn, and 3-light lattice
leaded casement in N gable, protected by later extension not of special
interest. Stable has primitive carpentry using natural S-curved braces
to wall plates, unjowled posts, and side-purlin roof supported by a
segmental curved member, scarfed at middle, and curving up from
wallplate to support undersides of the 2 purlins.
