TL 21 SW AYOT ST PETER Ayot Place

C15 hall house, altered and cross wing added early C17. Interior
alterations early-mid C19. Building restored and extended W in
early C20 and c1930 to form Tudor style mansion. Red brick,
exposed timber frame, plaster and nogging. Old tile and machine
tile roof. U-plan. 2 storeys and gabled attics. Wood and brick
mullioned and transomed leaded windows. Entrance front has 2
central gables, close studded left hand side with external
chimney stack, this the restored side elevation of the C17 cross
wing. E elevation to garden has old brickwork and a square
window bay on right hand gable end. S courtyard elevation with
curved pediment to stone door surround, obelisk and carved heads.
2 1st floor oriels. Interior of cross wing with 2 very good
Jacobean stone fireplaces on ground and 1st floor N wall.
Exposed heavy tie beams to hall, one with large braces and
remnants of spandrel tracery. (RCHM Typescript).
