House. Early C17 ('1635' recorded as on iron fireback formerly
in the house now at Ardeley Bury), altered in early C20. Timber
frame on red brick sill, roughcast with steep old red tile roofs.
2 storeys and attics, 2-cell, lobby-entry, central chimney plan
house facing E, with stair in rear wing to NW and later SW rear
extension. Chimney has 4 conjoined square shafts set diagonally
on a moulded square base. Symmetrical E front with 2 gabled
dormers on roofslope, 3-light flush casement windows to each side
of gabled open porch, on each floor, and small window over
battened central door. Leaded lattice glazing (renewed).
Interior has: exposed close studding, joists, axial beams,
straight tension bracing, original ovolo-moulded 2-light lattice
window at rear of 1st floor and another on staircase tower, 4-
centred arched brick fireplace to parlour and chamber over, oak
staircase and doors. 3-bay butt-purlin roof with wind braces in
front slope. Jowled posts. Manor house of a sub-manor. (RCHM
