House. Late C15 or early C16 open hall house, S end bay later.
Timber frame on brick plinth (renewed), roughcast with a steep
old red tile roof. A long 2-storeys house facing W. Middle part
formerly open to roof with smoke-blackened rafters. N end
storied of same date. S bay added. 2 central chimneys, one
cruciform and one T-shaped. 5 windows balanced front with 2-
light casement windows above and 3-light windows below. 2 hipped,
tiled porches (one infilled). Gabled rear stair tower and wall
timbers exposed inside rear outshut. Close-studding with curved
tension bracing and wind braces in side purlin roof. 4-light
diamond mullioned window on 1st floor with sliding shutter
(renewed). Lengths of early C14 moulded beam re-used as mantels
on ground floor with carved foliage and shields with de Benetade
arms, probably from restoration of chancel of St Peter's parish
church in C19. (RCHM Typescript).
