Description

TL 32 NW ASPENDEN TANNIS COURT LANE
(north side)

3/2 Tannis Court, and
Tannis Court House
-

- II

House, now 2 houses. Early C18, extended to rear in early C19
and late C20. Composite construction with oak beams and
chamfered posts, and timber framed partitions, within brick
external walls with some embedded posts. Exterior painted with
parallel hipped roofs of old red tiles. Rear extensions (Tannis
Court House) of brick to similar form. A 2-storeys, square,
double-pile house facing S with extensions to same height at
rear. Central entrance, end chimneys plan, but large external E
chimney with offsets appears original while small external W
chimney probably dates from an early C19 refronting of the main
block with dentilled eaves and 2 square 2-light casement windows
over 3 round-arched recesses containing the door flanked by 2
small bay windows. Early C18 2-light mullioned leaded casements
remainon the side walls. A picturesque small house of special
interest as illustrating the transition from timber-framed to
all-brick construction.
