House. C16 hall-house, C17 one-storey W extension and inserted
chimney and floor in hall, C20 matching porch. Timber frame on
red brick sill (plastered to W of porch), plastered with fan-
patterned pargetting and plain window margins. Steep half-hipped
thatched roof with eyebrow dormers front and back to the chamber
over the hall, and to room W of porch. Hipped thatched roof to W
part. A one and a half storeys, picturesque, 3-cell former hall-
house facing S, converted in C17 to a central-chimney, lobby-
entry plan with parlour at E end unheated until an C18 red brick
external gable chimney was added. Central chimney probably on
site of screens passage. Large gabled porch with 2 windows to
each side, and 2 dormers. Interior has exposed timber framing in
walls and floors, with close-studding, axial floor-beams at each
end of house but a chamfered and stopped cross-beam inserted in
the hall, clasped-purlin roof with wind-braces, and tie-beams cut
and braced to floor structure.
