Church Cottages

Block of 2 houses. '1852' on quatrefoil datestone on E gable.
Tall red brick, Gothic, block of estate houses on prominent
corner site, facing E. 2 storeys with steep pitched slate roof
with heavy moulded bargeboards and moulded pendant. Large
central chimney with 5 diagonal flues with moulded caps and
bases. Designed as N range with S cross wing. 3 windows. Tall
2-light 1st floor mullioned windows with cast iron lattice
casements, flat gauged arches and flush stone sills. 3-light
similar windows to Ground floor of N range but single storey 3-
sided stone bay window to cross wing with brick base, cast iron
lattice lights and hipped metal roof. Rustic gabled, slated
porches on tree trunks on S and N ends. Marks of blocked door in
angle between wings. An elaborate block of estate houses typical
of the Gilston Park Estate under John Hodgson. Part of group
with parish church.
