Shelter shed. Early C19. 9-bay shelter shed with 2-bay return
across S front of West Barn. Red brick rear wall to road in
English bond. Open front, arcaded to yard on S of West Barn.
Pitched slate roof on king post trusses with 1 purlin to each
slope. Between posts, the front arcade plate is propped by a
cambered timber set lower on the posts. Quadrant braces to tie
beams. A little-altered example of a traditional farm building,
and part of the complete group of farm buildings at Nine Ashes
described in the sale catalogue of 1898 as The Model Covered
Homestead (HRO). Important element linking stable and West Barn
alongside the road.
