Barn. Later C16, probably built for Sir Thomas Forster. 5-bay
single-aisled barn with gabled porch projecting in centre of S
side. Timberframed and weatherboarded on a low brick plinth.
Steep old red tiled roof, half-hipped at W but gabled at E where
it adjoins the East Barn. aisle roof raised in C18 but old
structure remains. Square jowled posts with long curved braces to
arcade plate and tie beams. Tension bracing in walls above mid-
rails tennoned in line. Spur walls and sills carry arcade
posts. Long down brace from post halved over aisle tie beam and
carried down to jowled post in aisle wall. Slender inclined
queen strut and collar trusses with clasped purlin roof and
curved paired wind braces. Face-halved bladed scarf in front
wall plate and rear arcade plate. An historic 5-bay C16 barn of
unusual form for this area. Part of picturesque farm group, and
1 of several surviving late C16 structures.
