7/13 The Crown PH
on the corner
- of Acorn Street
3 houses, now a PH, C18 or early C19 (on Tithe Map of 1842) short
terrace of 3 brick and slate low 2 storeys houses with continuous
5-bay lean-to wooden verandah. Timberframed and weatherboarded
rear wall. Combined and opened as PH in 1920s with pantiled brick
single storey brick and weatherboarded storage range set back to
left. 2/3 colonised. Colourwashed 3 window front with windows
above 1 another and doors paired on left. End chimneys to each
house, remote from door. Shared square stack to righthand pair.
Segmental brick arches to all openings. Dentilled eaves course.
Renewed small paned windows and plank doors moulded vertically
with small glazed rectangle. Weatherboarded addition at rear. 3
small village houses surviving with many original features
through having been combined as a public house. Set on a bank on
a prominent corner position opposite the Village Hall at the
centre of the village Conservation Area. Included for group
value. (HLHS (1979) 53).
