8/1

22.2.67 Whitebarns

- II

The main block of the building is in red brick, with double span tiled hipped
roof. Largely an C18 house with C19 extension on the south end. The north
end has a small wing with a cross wing on the north side, which may be part
of the original farmhouse, probably dating from C17 - it has a large central
chimney with the shaft rebuilt, and is at a lower level. Two storeys, north,
south-east and west elevations each have a five window range of double hung
sashes with glazing bars, band. The central entrance on the west side has
a rusticated arched entry and six panel door. Victorian ironwork porch.
The interior has a good staircase with twisted balusters, moulded handrail
and open string, with carved stair heads, some C18 panelling in some rooms
with moulded cornices.
