Barn. C16, roof of S aisle raised in C18/early C19. Timber frame on old
red brick sill in English bond, dark weatherboarded with a steep hipped
roof with gablet, now of corrugated asbestos. A 3-bay, aisled barn
facing S with S double doors in middle bay. Jowled posts to aisles and
arcade with curved tension braces in walls. Curved braces to cambered
tie-beams and arcade plates. Spur sill walls and plates support arcade
posts. Clasped-purlin roof with single purlin. Aisle-ties and front
wallplate retained when S aisle heightened and aisle roof given a
flatter pitch. Unusual scarf joint used in arcade plates with vertical
tenon and slanting butts.
