GV II

House, now 2 houses. C15, E part altered in C17/C18, made 2 houses in
later C20. Timber frame on black stucco sill, roughcast with steep old
red tile roofs. A 2 storeys 3-cells, end chimney plan house facing S
with internal chimney on party wall. S front has 3 windows to each floor
with 2 gabled porches between. Tall 2-light, softwood, small-pane,
casement flush windows to 1st floor. Flush box sash windows with 8/8
panes and dripboards on Ground Floor. Interior of W part (No.1) is 2
bays of C15 house possibly jettied originally. Crown-post roof with
octagonal post and pyramidial stops raised on chamfered tie-beam with
slots for 2 arched braces from the jowled posts. Edge-halved scarf in
wallplate with bridled butts. Heavy flat floor joists supported on heavy
chamfered axial beam with pyramidial stops. Beam carried on bracket on
bay posts. Older internal chimney has wide fireplace with 2 cusped
headed recesses in the back. E part probably on site of former
crosswing. (Bailey (1980)22).
